What is a Life Group?

A Life Group is a home fellowship made up of 10-16 people who meet weekly to share, study God's Word and support one another. A trained leader and host lead each group. An average meeting lasts for an hour and a half, followed by light refreshments.

Each Life Group has its own leadership team composed of Elders, teachers or group leaders committed to teaching and investing in the lives of their group. Some groups meet at the church, prior to the main church service for a time of teaching, worship, and fellowship while other groups meet throughout the week in a home setting  for an even more focused time around God’s Word. The relationships that form grow from close, consistent communion with other believers, and come with opportunities to show the kind of self-denying love and service the church was designed to display.

How important are Life Groups?

The Bible gives two specific reasons for committing to be part of a close-knit family of believers—that we would be encouraged, and that we would encourage others (Hebrews 10:24–25). God designed the church body to be where we receive and give accountability to persevere in our faith amid a darkening culture; with this powerful goal in mind, the Bible calls believers to love, encourage, and stimulate one another to good works until Christ returns. This mandate is what drives Life Groups at Cross Pointe Community Church.

What will we study?

Most of the studies are based on the previous week’s sermon. These “sermon-based” Life Groups are built on what we call a “Teaching-So What” model.

Think of the Sunday Sermon as a Teaching on Christian living, and the Life Group as the So What, where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the message works in real life. Each week there will be a series of Bible passages and questions on the back of the sermon note sheet to study before the meeting. It will usually take 20 to 40 minutes per week to complete the homework.

How do I choose a Life Group?

When selecting a group, we strongly recommend you choose a group based on its leader and host team and Station-in-Life (common stage in life), rather than its location. Over the years, we’ve found that groups do best when members share a common Station-in-Life and other interests with their leaders, hosts and other group members. In the end, you’ll find it’s worth the drive! Remember, these Station-in-Life groupings are intentionally kept vague and are meant to help you self-select an appropriate group for you. They are not intended to lock you in.

Where do I sign up?

Generally signing up for a life group can be done at Sunday service or by calling the church office. During the Sunday services, Life Group leaders and elders are available to help you choose a group and answer any questions. You can call the Church Office to speak to a staff members who can assist you in finding and signing up for a group, or answer any questions at (530) 221-4871.
